Dear [NAME], do you know how it feels to make a difference?

People express their feelings in a multitude of ways. After all, everyone of us is unique, in life, no two people are alike, yet we can say that there are those who nature has blessed with good health, and others who suffer from chronic illnesses, many of them helpless children.

We can also say that there are those who are outwardly expressive and there are those who are very quiet and reserved. These individuals may all be very loving and compassionate people, they just show their feelings differently. But deep down, none of us wants to see other people suffer, and if given the opportunity, all of us would strive to alleviate the pain of others through our good works.

Like the good works of the National Kidney Foundation and donors like you.
Yet, without the support of caring people like you, the NKF would not have been able to set up its life-saving dialysis programme, saving the lives of thousands of kidney patients who did not have the resources to save themselves. Or helping children stricken by debilitating disease like epilepsy, brittle bone disease, growth hormone disorders and many others problems.

But because compassion is a virtue we both share, these poor and needy patients live better, healthier lives, and the stress on their families is reduced, because strangers like you came and reached out to help them selflessly.
I am writing to you today to tell you about a vital programme that can allow us to continue our good works for generations to come, saving the lives of disadvantaged Singaporeans through Planned Legacy Giving.

As some of you may know, planned giving is a powerful investment that ensures your family’s future needs are well taken care of and at the same time, helps provide the suffering and sick with the most precious gift of all – life. A planned gift can be made in the form of CPF nominations, life insurance, wills and many other convenient ways.

Enclosed is a copy of Your Guide to Giving, which is full of information about this important programme. It also shows the importance of having a will, to ensure peace of mind for one’s twilight years. Why do you need a will? A will is an estate plan, which everyone should have, whether we are single, married, raising a family, or approaching retirement. Writing a will is a good opportunity to get our affairs in order. If you already have a will, you should review it. A person’s priorities and financial needs change as we age.

Without a will, you are depriving yourself of one last opportunity to express your true feelings. A will is a legal document that sets out your estate plan. Making an estate plan can be simple and it does not have to be expensive. Yet two-thirds of us die without a valid will. Without an estate plan, state law determines who receives your property. These laws are not adjusted to fit individual situations. They are very rigid. The chance that your property would be divided the way you want it to be is very slim if you do not have a will. The court will appoint your personal representative, distribute your property, and even appoint a guardian for your minor children. Don’t let this happen to you.

Since a will is so important, you should get professional advice. It is easy to overlook very important considerations such as estate taxes, and giving to charities. Remembering your favorite charitable institutions in your will is an expression of your commitment to their good works. As with all financial decisions, a planned gift should be designed with care. NKF’s planned giving professionals will work closely, and confidentially, with you to ensure that your gift to the National Kidney Foundation achieves your individual goals.

Through your will, you can express your love and affection, your generosity and compassion, towards your family, and those who are struggling to live, by transforming their lives and giving them hope for a better future. And you can do it in your own way. Your will can be much more than just a vehicle used to distribute your property. It can be a testimony of love. By remembering your loved ones, and making sure those who are suffering are taken care of, you are expressing your love.

Sow the seeds of life today. Planned Legacy Giving will cost you nothing but will leave long-lasting blessings for you and those you care about the most.
Yours sincerely
